A little bird (Joyce Richards) just shared some exciting news from Back Cove. Much like Hinckley and MJM, Back Cove will be introducing an Outboard version of their Downeast Designs this summer and at a much more affordable price.

This is big news in that Back Cove has never offered anything other than single diesel configurations. My guess is that this design will be as quiet or quieter than the single diesel since the power plant is located at very stern of the boat.

Hull #1 will be finished some time in August and will be at Newport Boat Show. The first build line on the boat will start in December 2018 – completion date not known at this time.

She will have Twin Yamaha 300’s with optional 350’s and also optional Suzuki 350’s.  Given the higher horsepower and the efficiency of these outboards, it is likely to exceed current models in speed by about 10 knots. It will come standard with bow thruster, Generator and Air Conditioning.

I have sea trialed the diesel powered Back Cove 34 and I was very impressed with the way she rode and handled Buzzard’s Bay Chop.

This is a totally new design that takes what Back Cove learned on the old 34 to the next level.

Pricing and Standard Features

I have full pricing and option sheets, but I feel it would be inappropriate to publish them here. I can tell you that she’s around a $400,000 boat.

Although outboards in this class are pricey, they’re easier to access for service and when the time comes, easy to replace and thus renew the boat. I think this will be a great long term resale play. I can see resales with new powerplants selling 5-10 years from now that look new and sell for close to their original price.
